There is something about a tidal marsh: sky, grasses, water coming and going through channels, open water, even the glistening mudflats at low tide; shapes, subtle color shifts, small places where the light gets caught. So much to capture. So many stories to tell. Come and join me as we explore the different moods of the marshes that abound on Cape Cod.

This workshop will begin each day with group discussion and studio work using reference photos from nearby marshes. Demonstrations of painting the marsh landscape and “at the easel” critiques of participant work, including plans for “next steps,” round out the workshop.

Supply List:
  • Uart 320 or 400 sanded paper (I will bring extra) with a backing board
  • A combination of hard and soft pastels in warm and cool color ranges (Terry Ludwig, Nupastel, Girault)
  • Rubbing alcohol, soft disposable brush, cup
  • A range of small brushes, such as a kit for beginning watercolor, is recommended.
